Curriculum Review
This is a curriculum review of a few different curriculums from every
subject. This is not an extensive list, but check back periodically
because we are always updating our reviews.
Grammar
First Language Lessons by Jessie Wise this is laid out well, lots of
repetition. Depending on the level of severity you might have to make
modifications. Such as flash cards, or use dry erase boards. Overall
this is a good program for autism. They also have a CD with the poems
and stories to reinforce their lessons.
Rod & Staff Grammar this is a time commitment. So if you have a child
that likes lots of sheet work this is a good curriculum.
Switched on Schoolhouse has a Language Arts computer program for 3rd
grade and up. This is a good program for children who like the computer.
They have games that the kids can play to reinforce the lesson.

Spelling
Spelling Workout by Modern Curriculum Press is a good resource for
children with autism. Again depending on severity modifications could
include, flash cards, writing words on dry erase board, writing in the
air or playing spelling games.
Spelling Power
This is an non workbook approach focusing on the most common word and
the words that are frequently spelled wrong.
Handwriting
Handwriting without Tears was invented by an occupational therapist.
This is a great program, that is ideal for kids who hate writing.
A Reason for Handwriting is a good way to learn to write they have one
teachers manual and a series of books.
Reading
Alpha Phonics is a basic approach there is not distracting and you learn
to read by list.
Learn to Read in 100 Easy Lessons this has a very scripted approach to
learning to read and you do the exercise for 15 minutes twice or three
times a day.
Sing, Spell, Read and Write this comes with games, the song is good it
is fast, but good. There are about 4 sheets to do per day. Along
with games to play.
Exploring the Code there are a series of books, this program has
received a lot of good reviews.
Math
Math U See this is a see it, say it, then write it approach. They have
manipulative's, DVD's and teacher's manuals to guide the whole family
through.
Saxon Math this program introduces a new problem every day to work on
and there is lots of review.
Singapore Math this program is a series of textbooks and workbooks uses
the Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract approach.
Switched on Schoolhouse if you have the child that loves the computer
than this is a good program.
On Cloud Nine this is a well laid out approach for learning mastery.
They also have detail lessons plans and a systemic way of showing the
results.
